  • Click on the save-as dialogue’s “save” button.
  • In the “file name” line of the save-as dialogue, type the name of the new directory you want to use as a vault, for instance confidential-stuff
  • In the save-as dialogue, navigate to the parent folder within which you want to create your new vault, for instance C:\Users\yourname\Dropbox.
  • After clicking on the “+” button, you get a pop-down.
  • A pop down should appear offering you two buttons, so you can select whether you want to create a new vault or open an existing vault.

    Just the text and the line is visible only when you have no vaults defined in your copy of Cryptomator.Ĭlick this “+” button. The “+” button is always there, if you have any vaults defined already. When you start Cryptomator for the first time, or any time you have no vaults set up, it shows you an emtpy list on its left and a line from a text “click here to add new vaults” to a “+” button on its bottom.

  • Click “Finish”, optionally checking the “Launch Cryptomator” box before.
  • Wait for the installation process to complete.
  • Accept the suggested Destination Location by clicking Next.
  • Accept the license agreement (MIT) and click “Next”.
  • If it asks whether you want it to perform administrative tasks on your computer, click on “yes”. If it asks whether you want to execute this file, published by “Open Source Developer, Sebastian Stenzel”, click on “execute”.
  • Run the file you downloaded by double clicking on it.
  • Use the version that matches the bitness of your operating system.

    A full example name is Cryptomator-1.2.3-x86.exe for Cryptomator version 1.2.3 for 32-bit Windows. platform is a placeholder that changes for the 32- vs. x.y.z is a placeholder for the version number, 1.2.3 (sic) at the time of this writing (mid-April 2017).

  • Visit the Cryptomator website and download Cryptomator-x.y.z-platform.exe.
  • Now here are detailed step-by-step instructions to get it going. We can’t promise you an exact release date yet, but we hope we will release a first beta version via TestFlight in the summer.In my last post, I described Cryptomator, a free (pay what you want), open-source program that offers transparent, automatic, file-by-file encryption.     With the introduction of vault format 8, the “old” iOS app will probably get its last major update to version 1.6.0. Also, we hope to be able to include more clouds soon and enable access to content of the vault via third-party apps with a “document provider”.

    Many thanks to Manu for his open source contribution! Another small change is that since the update 1.5.13, it is possible to sort the vault list and thus get a better overview of the vaults.īut that’s not all we have planned for the Android app! We are happy to release Cryptomator on F-Droid soon. Since the update to version 1.5.14 (currently still in a beta version), pCloud is natively supported by Cryptomator.

    State of the Android AppĪs you might have noticed in our blog, we finally published the source code of the app! Apart from that, vault format 8 is also a big topic in our development here. Unfortunately, we could not make any progress with regard to Flatpak. Furthermore, we have updated Cryptomator to JDK 16 with the latest version 1.5.14, which brings some upstream fixes.

    In addition, there is now a prototype for the distribution of Cryptomator as a Microsoft Software Installation (.msi), but the implementation still has alpha character. In the future, this will be possible directly in the Cryptomator user interface. Until now, a separate program was needed to check the state of your vault and to execute cleanup and restore commands. It makes the integration of other authentication methods in the future possible, for example to enable 2FA.Īnother feature is the integration of a sanitizer. One of the main points here is to implement a new vault format (Vault Format 8). The update to version 1.6.0 is just around the corner! The release will mainly contain some invisible changes that will allow us to add new features in a timely manner.
